About

Islington Clean Air Parents was set up in 2019 by four parents with children in Islington schools in response to the alarming levels of pollution in the Borough and the increasing understanding of the dangers of air pollution on the health, development and educational/life outcomes of young children.

The four parents who founded Islington Clean Air Parents were each trying to improve the air quality in and around their children’s schools, but weren’t able to make a difference alone. By working together, they were able to support each other, share ideas and have a bigger impact across their schools.

The group has now expanded and the impact has widened beyond the original schools but the intent is still the same: improve air quality in Islington for the sake of all the children growing up and going to school in the Borough.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to improve air quality in Islington. We do this by calling on the local council, MPs and schools to take the action needed to significantly reduce air pollution to below the latest WHO recommended Air Quality Guidelines.

We understand that there is no safe level of air pollution for children and are working to reduce air pollution in Islington. By bringing the conversation to the local level, clean air is becoming a priority for our council.

As busy parents and carers, we all have many priorities and little time. That’s why we work together to create the biggest reduction in air pollution possible, all while still getting on with our lives.

We can help you with:

  • Introducing the Clean Air Toolkit to your school and Headteacher.
  • Apply for funding – to plant trees, build a raingarden or to create a school street.
  • Organising events at school or community level.
  • Contacting MPs, councillors and other leaders to bring about change.
  • Reducing idling on local roads
